PostSubject: Anyone good at networking?   Mon 18 Apr - 0:14

I have a current problem at my parents house which needs a person who knows networking extremely well. I recently purchased Comcast High Speed Internet for this house but the problem I'm having now is that they are telling me i need a second modem and a second internet account that i have to purchase which would be another $72.00 U.S. In the past I have a Ethernet cable running from the West Wing to the East Wing. I was wondering if there was anyway to access the same internet from the same modem.

Attempts I've tried so far are as follows:
1) I've tried connecting the same ethernet cable to the Linksys Wireless Router I have but that doesn't seem to work.

2) Wireless Range Extenders which i would need at least two due to the fact that this house is about an acre wide and its mostly concrete which blocks the range.

double-plug your routers,

just plug your 2nd router into the first 1, but be sure that you plug it into the 2nd routers ''Connection/Line'' portal. (a router usually has 4-6 portals for computers, and 1 for the internet Line)

works fine for me and i can even host that way by opening ports on both of em.

(i use 2 because on my first router, the Wireless antenna is broken or smting, constant 800+ pings, and i need the first router because its the home-modem for the phone/inet etc.)

I plugged the ethernet cable into the "internet plug" and i think it may be too weak of a connection i don't know. Im going to get one of my IT guys over tonight to figure this out cause i've tried a lot of ideas but it just doesn't seem to work. One of my friends said i would have to probably buy an amplification unit to boost the signal (though its an ethernet cable i don't know how you would boost it.)

edit: we've gotten internet to the router but now the router won't give the internet to the computer... Ive been working on this issue since 8am EST and its almost 12 hours with a "almost there."
