I like to terrain a little with the WE, and I wanted to ask some questions:
The current RC has green colors (whereas the old one had brown). I'm working on a new Terrain-Only-Map (using some models out of the open source and some I found myself) which will be shown as a Showcase map. Meaning Lots of Units, Doodads, no Triggers and no Game. Just what you can see.

Wanted to ask if you (the community) would like certain things on my terrain-map. I've collected the meshes (3mb) and now I intend to start with the terrain.

Question #1: Which type of terrain would you like to see?
-Tropical (Palms, lots of sand, beaches and water, few mountains)
-Summer (Current Map, lots of green colors)
-Fall (Old Map, lots of Brown colors)
-Desert (Desert vegetation, lots of Rocks and sand, very few mountains)
-Town Only (Buildings everywhere, with some parks, facilities are larger and more detailed)

Question #2: Do you want new or more facilities? If so, please post your wishes.

Question #3: What is important to YOU when you want to play a RC-Map. What do you expect, what could be done better?

I think it'd be nice to have it as a more city type thing. But then im reminded of other zombie games like this. Maybe more of a summer type would make it look fresh and interesting a costal city/base

EDIT: Was thinking about placing this RC on another planet. A completely different planet would allow more creep types. What do you think?
(If its not on earth, I could add some "Alien"-Ruins the RC could be researching. The excavations would be placed near the Entrance of the RC, and I could use some interesting model combinations.)

Meh, i suggested some kind of artillery boat once. Got refused. i don't think he'll add boats as vehicles, just as quest targets.

Ok, heres the first base, the Airport.

I've roughly laid down the location for everything, and the airbase is (again) at the edge of the Map. You can see some Marines guarding the entrance at the parking lot. The Airport is mainly used to transport heavy containers (will be added later) and to move the Security Forces. The two peasants are working there, I've added them for fun. Smile The grey squares next to the 2 Runways are spots for the airplanes. You cant see it on the screenshot, but ingame it looks like a higghres steel grid.

I've placed the Airport near the western edge of the map. It's also south of an Excavation site (belonging to ThanaCorp and the focus of the RC here) and to the west of the city. The city will be done soon, it will be bigger and more labyrinthian then the original. No more walking through buildings and you'll need more then 1 satchel to pull them down. There'll also be more city lights, a park and a central plaza. And a small sceneric boulevard showing the sea (south-east corner).

First I'll add more details to the external Outpost (its more to the north-west then the original) and its designed more like a fortress. (4 Entrances, extended walls and a Helipad. Then I'll add some small security posts, where small pairs of SOs keep guard. These posts will be close to the roads and important places, and consist of 1 small building, fences and a humvee.

Current Mapsize: 2,25MB
To Do:
-Import a few Buildings and various Doodads
-Import Humvee
-Import Airplanes/Helicopters




Something I've done with jk's marines:
 
This happened more by chance, I've found a few good skins for marines, and I thought "Why not use them on jks model? This is the result, and it looks not so bad I think^^
(Blue could be a Cyborg or Special Ops, Orange is a Scientist and Brown the normal, unskinned Marine who was added as a comparison. I've reskinned the Biologist-version of jks marines I found in the open source)

Does anyone know where to find more good skins or models for marines?
Would be nice if you could posts some links. Thanks!

if you want to see a good zombie map with a City Based terrain, check Dawn of the Dead Beta 6 (or higher in the maintime cuz i didnt play it for 2-3 months) this aint a promotion for the map, just check the terrain, maybe itl bring you on idea's Cool

The newest is Beta8.
And they use the city-cliffs to create the "buildings". It's a very good map, but since I plan on using "real" buildings I cant really use it.
But it might give me one or two ideas. Thanks anyway!

i was more thinking about the roads, concrete floor etc that you see everywhere, i know the buildings are not rlly buildings but the rest is pretty nice

Thanks for the pointer, but the terrain in DotD is nothing I can use^^
They've used the Dalaran Ruins tileset, and 90% of that are the purple stone-tiles. The Street was the only imported tile, and I've already found another skin I like better.

Ok, had a rather bad day, and I wanted to do something fun. So I imported some scripts and did a few locations.
After grilling enough zombs, I decided to show how the External Outpost will look like and the first security station, enjoy:

@JK (If you're reading this): You're using Gold=Bullets and Wood=Clips. Food isnt really used by you.
I would do something like Gold=Salary, Wood=Bullets, Food=Clips. Whenever the employees do a mission they get Gold (only those who did something). Which they can spend for random Items at Supplypoints or for ammo. Wood is used like normal and even if food has a max limit, the max amount of clips is certainly lower^^

Mh ... namo ... food is used to limit the zombies on the map ... so it is actually used, if you didn't knew it.

Besides of that, it looks good ... want to see more of it.

small thing Namorax, looking @ that security post the building seems just a little bit bigger then the marine, must be a rlly small buiding or a rlly big marine then.

my point is, keep the scale to lifelike if you want it to be a ''lifelike'' game

I'm not going for 80-100% reality. I scaled everything on the normal Villager. A marine is a bit larger then the villager (due to the suit), and the Firebats are a little bit larger then the marines. The building "might" be a little small. I'll increase it's size a little bit, but if the buildings seem to be too small for the marines, thats ok for me.
nobody really notices anyway, and the tanks are also not the right size for Marines Razz

@Warlock: The Food used to control amount zombs is the one the "zombie computer player" has right? I meant the food of the players. I didnt notice any changes at all during all my games. If jk changes the food to clips it wouldnt affect the amount of zombies of the zombie-computer right? (SInce they dont use ammo)
And if you think about it... The marines have bullets, Dr.Frank has Zombies^^

(Btw jk: The marines you see with the large spaulders, those were what I was speaking to you about earlier. About the Defense items etc or how the heavy soldiers could look)

Well... if youre interested:

Marines:
 

From Left to Right:
Red=Adwanced Marine Light
Bleu=Jk's Animated Marine
Teal=Adwanced Heavy Marine
Purple=Jk's Scientist Reskinned Robotic
Yellow=Jk's Scientist Reskinned Tech Visor
Green=Adwanced Ghost

The only difference between jk's marines and the "adwanced" Marines are some animations and that the normal adwanced marines have the lamp on the shoulder which is missing on jks version.

EDIT: On a personal Note, I'm going to remove the Ghost version. I HATE the green breath.
EDIT2: Still looking for nice Marine Skins, if you know some^^

Hes the soldier at the right side of the pic^^

And the yellowish/greenish thing in front of his face is the breath i mentioned. Whenever the ghost "breathes out" it appears. Its just ugly and I cant tinker with other peoples models...
